BMW CE 04 Electric Scooter Performance
BMW doesn’t provide exact figures for its CE 04’s electric motor’s performance; however, BMW claims 31mph can be reached in 2.6 seconds with a top speed claimed of 120kph – that is enough to beat most scooters out there, including Vespa’s 300 Super Sport and Yamaha’s TMAX 560 without its CVT losing some torque.BMW CE 04 Electric Scooter
The motor sits within the steel frame, surrounded by its battery pack and other electronic gubbins. A long corridor of cells runs all the way back to the rear wheel for added drama; its wide front frame features wide and angular arms to further emphasize its dramatic presence. Although this long backbone does limit cargo room, rear wheels offer ample clearance so a luggage rack may still be installed for extra cargo capacity.
The ride position and handling on the CE 04 were comfortable. At lower speeds, front steering required some muscle, but at higher speeds the bike felt stable. BMW offers three riding modes – Eco, Rain and Road – to customize how an e-scooter responds to user input and utilize regenerative braking; Eco is most aggressive while Rain and Road use more conservative approaches; Our tester included the $500 Comfort package with seat with backrest as an option.BMW CE 04 Electric Scooter
BMW CE 04 Electric Scooter Design
BMW’s first entry into the Indian electric scooter market is an eye-catching machine. Built for urban living, the CE 04 exudes “silent rocket” at first glance – not quite like Tron Lightcycle or Stormtrooper bike from Akira but as close as any vehicle will come by 2022.BMW CE 04 Electric Scooter
The bike uses an 8.9 kWh battery and permanently excited liquid-cooled synchronous motor to achieve a claimed range of 130 km on one charge, producing 42 horsepower and 62 Nm of torque from its engine. Recharging of its 8.9 kWh battery takes four hours using a standard 2.3 kW charger.
BMW has integrated a 10.2-inch TFT display that provides riders with data such as speed, power consumption and navigation information. Additional key features include full ELD illumination, three ride modes with keyless ride functionality and ABS among many more.
Up top is a large shield-like windscreen and an eye-catching headlamp featuring circular design. The seat is low with floating design to provide more stability when traveling at speeds up to 120kmph. There is also an underseat storage compartment which will easily accommodate most three-quarter helmet sizes but will struggle fitting full-face helmets – especially when they include communicators attached.
BMW CE 04 Electric Scooter Features
As expected, the CE 04 comes equipped with many convenient features, including a wide TFT color display capable of showing GPS prompts and pages of ride data controlled through its knurled control ring on the left handlebar. A BMW app further expands this system’s capabilities.
But the real delight comes in experiencing its power: an exhilarating surge of torque and horsepower that rips through its handlebar grips like an onrush of fire at low speeds, effortlessly overshadowing most vehicles at stoplights or making passing easier on two-lane backroads. While its top speed electronically is set at 75 mph, my review unit reached its limit quickly.
The CE 04 is notable for its sporty chassis that makes navigating traffic with ease, and the long battery pack helps lower its center of gravity compared to most maxi scooters. But its weight becomes apparent during rapid direction changes or tight parking spaces.
The CE 04 is distinguished by a striking battery pack housed within an eye-catching, uniquely sculpted frame that exudes style. A subtle extra design flourish conceals its charging port which sits hidden underneath its single piece seat ‘floating’ design; most three quarter helmets fit without issue while full facers may require some adjustment of size to accommodate.
