Maharaja Moviev | Vijay Sethupathi

Vijay Sethupathi’s performance is one of the main draws to watching this film. He excels at portraying a simple barber who dedicates himself solely to doing his job well and looking out for his daughter Jothi; they form an unusual yet special bond with their rusty iron dustbin known affectionately as Lakshmi.

He is an outstanding family man, treating his staff well while showing great respect to women. His body language, walking style and expressions excelled in this role.

He may appear tough at first glance, but he has an understanding and soft side as well. When needed he makes an excellent partner and even friend. Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas and Natty also impress and the screenplay features powerful emotional moments and action sequences.Maharaja Movie

Maharaja MovieĀ  | Anurag Kashyap

Kashyap knows it’s key to keep his crime thriller tight by not overusing flashback sequences; otherwise he risks disorienting the viewer between 1996 and 2021.Maharaja Movie

Vijay Sethupathi gives an exceptional performance as Maharaja, an ambitious man determined to protect his daughter at any cost. His transformation scene and action sequences stand out as do those from Natty and Manikandan who also give standout performances.

Negative points could include underdeveloped antagonists; nonetheless, Anurag Kashyap excels as a ruthless dacoit. The director has made a career out of portraying powerful heavies and corrupt agents and his presence is felt throughout this film.

Nithilan Swaminathan has directed Maharaja with an admirable intention, covering an important subject matter. Although there may be a few shortcomings, the film keeps you on edge thanks to its intricate subplots and unexpected surprises.

Maharaja Movie | Music

Nithilan Swaminathan has produced a film with good intentions about an important topic; however, some of its more profound moments were lost due to convenient writing.Maharaja Movie

This story follows a barber who becomes obsessed with his dustbin, Lakshmi. This movie explores how desires can lead people down dark paths that lead them towards criminal acts.Maharaja Movie

Vijay Sethupathi gives a phenomenal performance as the meek barber. His scenes in the police station and climax stand out. Anurag Kashyap makes an impactful entrance as the menacing robber, perfectly fitting the role. Other actors including Natty, Mamta Mohandas and Singampuli deliver excellent performances as well. Dinesh Purushothaman’s eye-catching visuals and Ajaneesh Loknath’s pulse-inducing music elevate the proceedings further while Philomin Raj’s deft editing stands out as one of many key highlights.

Maharaja Movie | Cinematography

Nithilan Saminathan treads an uneasy line between showing compassion and exploiting sensitive topics with Maharaja. Vijay Sethupathi stars as an individual who shows up at the police station ostensibly to file a complaint about his dustbin; but there’s far more going on beneath the surface.

This film follows a nonlinear structure and its multiple timelines can make for some confusing viewing, particularly in its first half. As it progresses however, everything becomes clear once all the puzzle pieces come together at its climax. Natty, Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas and Abhirami deliver strong performances; however their antagonist characters do not feel fleshed-out enough – they seem more like convenient writing choices rather than terrifying villains.Maharaja Movie

Maharaja Movie | Editing

Nithilan Swaminathan uses non-linear storytelling and abrupt time jumps to craft an absorbing thriller, leaving his viewers disoriented but gripped throughout by its twists and turns.

Maharaja begins with Vijay Sethupathi walking into a police station and reporting his daughter Lakshmi has been abducted by someone. Though no one believes him and thinks he is crazy, he doesn’t give up until he gets her back.

Music for this project was composed by Ajaneesh Loknath while cinematography is being handled by Dinesh Purushothaman; Philomin Raj handles editing while V Selvakumar handles production design – V Selvakumar is expected to design the production design of this upcoming project set for release shortly.

Maharaja Movie | Cast

Vijay Sethupathi delivers an outstanding performance in this film that perfectly displays his ability as an author-backed actor, perfecting voice modulation perfectly and shining in scenes at both a police station and in the climax. Abhirami, Natty, Singam Puli and Mamta Mohandas all standout as strong supporting characters.

Nithilan Swaminathan has done a commendable job of writing his screenplay, though at times it feels artificial. He manipulates narrative and timelines to fit his idea, leaving the film feeling mechanical. Furthermore, Anurag Kashyap and other antagonists lack character development, forcing forced chemistry between father and daughter in some scenes; although, interval block and climax make for memorable viewing experience.
