Force Gurkha

Force Motors recently unveiled the updated Gurkha 5-door at Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). It includes two extra sets of doors and more luxurious features.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Mahindra Thar. Its engine, developed from Mercedes, now produces 140hp.

Force Gurkha Why Force Motors is considering an automatic gearbox for the Gurkha

Force Motors’ Gurkha is a bold and rugged off-roader, which has attracted niche buyers due to its off-road capabilities and striking looks. Unfortunately, however, its lack of an automatic gearbox prevents it from reaching more potential customers.

Current Gurkha models are powered by a 2.6-litre diesel engine producing 140 PS and 320 Nm mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Force Motors recently upgraded this engine by installing a larger turbocharger, new intake system and larger fuel injectors – increasing torque by 50 percent while improving noise, vibration and harshness levels.

Automakers are currently exploring whether offering an automatic gearbox as part of this SUV’s offering will broaden its appeal and better compete against rivals such as Mahindra Thar and Maruti Suzuki Jimny that have automatic options in their lineups.

According to sources, the company is currently considering purchasing a 7-speed torque converter automatic gearbox from Japanese firm JATCO – the same manufacturer who supplies CVT automatic gearboxes for Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite among others. This gearbox would make an ideal addition for the Gurkha’s 4X4 drive system by providing adequate bottom end torque while still offering relaxing highway cruising capabilities.

Force Gurkha The 2.6-litre diesel engine

The Force Gurkha features a 2.6-litre diesel engine capable of producing 140 horsepower. This reliable unit has proven itself in off-road conditions, offering exceptional off-road capability. Furthermore, its manual gearbox offers multiple ratios.Force Gurkha

This engine is derived from Mercedes’ four-cylinder OM651 unit. This unit can be found throughout most of their car and truck offerings including their Sprinter van. A 50-state legal version will soon be sold here in America under various C- and G-class sedans.Force Gurkha

In the 2.6L turbo diesel manual variant of the Gurkha SUV, torque reaches 24.5 kgm at 2400rpm – more than enough power to move this heavy payload with ease and propel it along its journey.Force Gurkha

The Force Gurkha’s off-road prowess is enabled by its durable ladder frame chassis that makes for smooth handling on challenging terrain, and by its utilitarian exterior design that recalls that of Mercedes G-Wagon. Furthermore, its refined interior boasts better materials including improved instrument cluster, infotainment system and plush seats to give it more of a premium feel. Furthermore, for 2020 model year models an enhanced version of current ladder frame chassis would ensure they pass BNVSAP crash tests mandated crash tests as required crash tests Force Gurkha

Force Gurkha The 5-speed manual gearbox

A 5-speed manual gearbox is an ideal option for drivers who prefer more control of their vehicle, enabling them to choose the ideal gear for their driving style and offering improved fuel efficiency compared to automatic transmissions.Force Gurkha

Manual gearboxes can also be more engaging to drive and can help drivers develop their driving skills. Learning to operate a stick shift may take some practice; the key to successfully doing so is understanding its inner workings first before trying it yourself.Force Gurkha

Manual transmissions can also help decrease parasitic losses in cars, which account for as much as 20% of its power loss through oil pumps and clutches; with manual gearboxes available today they may help lessen these parasitic losses significantly.Force Gurkha

Manual gearboxes not only reduce parasitic losses but can also enhance performance by enabling the engine to run at its optimal speed for extended periods, leading to improved gas mileage, faster acceleration, and an enhanced driving experience. Furthermore, manual transmissions reduce engine noise and vibration – particularly helpful for older vehicles which have difficulty with these issues – helping lower maintenance costs and repair bills in the process.Force Gurkha

Force Gurkha The pricing

The Gurkha currently retails at an ex-showroom price of Rs 18 lakh and adding an automatic gearbox may increase that figure by as much as one lakh; this should not pose a significant barrier given its off-road capabilities and variety of equipment available for sale.

The new Gurkha is slightly longer than its predecessor due to an additional set of doors and 425mm longer wheelbase compared to just three in its previous form. Nonetheless, its iconic G-Wagen-inspired exterior remains unchanged with circular headlight units, fender mounted indicators, and a sizable grille, giving it a powerful appeal.

Under its bonnet, the Gurkha still utilizes a Mercedes-Benz-sourced 2.6-litre diesel engine which now produces 138bhp, an increase from its 90 bhp predecessor model. It is coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox and boasts four-wheel drive which can be activated via an optional switch in the center console.

In order to remain competitive against Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny in the budget 4×4 market, Force Motors SUV must offer more equipment at its price and appear more modern.
