Kapoor was the grandson of Dewan Basheshwarnath Kapoor and great-grandson of Dewan Keshavmal Kapoor from the famous Kapoor family in British India, born in Peshawar and survived by his wife, sons Randhir and Rishi Kapoor, whom many actors found inspiration from.
