Uganda are making their World Cup debut and haven’t exactly got off to an auspicious start. A dismal batting performance from their side has left them reeling at 38-5 with Robinson Obuya and Riazat Ali Shah trying their best to bring order and positivity back into their innings.
Rashid Khan brings order back into Ugandan cricket as they are dismissed for just 58 runs in their inaugural World Cup match.

Afghanistan kicked off their World Cup campaign with an emphatic win against Uganda at Providence in Guyana. Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz took full advantage of the excellent batting conditions to open quickly, scoring several boundaries during their powerplay session – with Zadran notching four and Gurbaz adding two.
Uganda had briefly come back into contention with two wickets from Cosmas Kyewuta and Brian Masaba before their collapse. Cosmas Kyewuta and Masaba appeared to have given Uganda hope; however, due to poor shot selection from Ugandan players combined with outstanding bowling from Afghanistan bowlers as well as poor field discipline Afghanistan quickly put away the game early.

Afghanistan made a stunning start to their World Cup campaign by defeating Uganda by 125 runs with an uncompromising performance from both bat and ball, led by Fazalhaq Farooqi’s blistering batting which reduced them to 18/5 while Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Naveen-ul-Haq contributed with wickets as well.
Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz had an opening wicket partnership of 154 runs before Gurbaz was dismissed by Cosmas Kyewuta for 20. After this wicket fell, however, the lower middle order collapsed like a pack of cards until eventually bowled out for just 58 runs.
Alpesh Ramjani took the final wicket with a deceptively subtle googly that caught Henry Ssenyondo napping in his crease. Pitch at fuller length around off, it burst through and struck off stump. Naveen-ul-Haq then followed up by scoring two runs quickly in his next over.
