New Features
Apple’s MacBook Pro laptop is an industry standard. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, this notebook enables faster processing speeds and graphics performance for optimal productivity.
The new MacBook Pro offers an advanced True Tone display that adapts its color temperature automatically according to ambient lighting for an enhanced viewing experience. In addition, P3 wide color support adds vivid and realistic hues.
New Features | 1. Touch ID
Touch ID, designed by Apple, allows users to unlock their Mac or certain password-protected items, make purchases from iTunes Store and App Store with Apple Pay online or within apps, switch between user accounts on Macs, switch user profiles seamlessly between accounts on both machines, etc. It’s integrated into the home (top) button made of laser-cut sapphire crystal encased within a stainless steel detection ring and provides secure identification capabilities.
Touch ID can detect up to five fingerprints that have been registered, even on surfaces that are wet or damaged, and it recognizes them even if their surface is wet or damaged. Furthermore, its subtly and 360 degree reading ability reduces chances of it being fooled by fake fingers, severed fingers or the sci-fi film trope of lifting an invisible glass finger to reveal secret codes.
Secure Enclave processors convert each fingerprint enrolled on an electronic device into a series of values, then compares these against its database to confirm whether or not they belong to its true owner. There’s only a 1 in 50,000 chance for false matches compared with cracking 4-digit passcodes or entering PIN codes manually on keyboards.
New Features | 2. FileVault
Apple has always been ahead of the game when it comes to user data security. They pioneered an initial method for safely encrypting files with Mac OS 10.3 (Panther) back in 2003.
New Macs come equipped with an automated hardware-based encryption feature called the Secure Enclave that performs automatic, hardware-based SSD encryption without needing user intervention. Apple also provides FileVault in macOS that enables full disk (or volume) encryption for individual users.
Once enabled, all data stored on the system startup disk becomes encrypted and inaccessible to anyone without the correct login credentials or a recovery key. This feature is particularly valuable for businesses as it protects sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands in case of theft, loss or hardware failure. New Features
However, when activating FileVault a full encrypt process is initiated. This could take hours depending on drive size and amount of data being encrypted; once completed if you forget your password or recovery key your data may remain inaccessible; although MDM solutions like Kandji can remotely assign new keys for individual users. New Features | 3. AirDrop
AirDrop remains an impressive file transfer feature almost ten years after its introduction, offering iOS and macOS users the opportunity to easily share photos, videos, websites, locations, and more between Apple devices nearby. New Features
When sending files from your Mac, simply select the AirDrop icon in the menu bar and choose to send whatever you’d like to your recipient. They’ll arrive in their target app where they can be opened or saved to a folder. New Features
AirDrop allows users to control who can send them files via AirDrop, either by restricting it to contacts only or opening it up to anyone nearby. Unfortunately, however, cyber flashing is exploited via this latter option and has resulted in people receiving sexually explicit images from unknown strangers requiring them to change their privacy settings in order to stop receiving unwanted sexually explicit material from strangers.
If you own a MacBook, take full advantage of what AirDrop has to offer by watching our tutorial and using apps such as Dropzone, CleanMyMac X and Gemini to maintain its cleanliness.
New Features | 4. Handoff
Handoff is one of the great features of owning multiple Apple products; it allows users to start tasks on one device and seamlessly transition them onto another device – for instance if you write an email on your iPhone and then open it up again on your MacBook, all your previous work will still be there and you can pick up where you left off right where it left off!
Handoff works via Bluetooth Low Energy 4.1 between devices logged into the same iCloud account and running iOS or macOS versions that support it, such as Safari, Mail, Maps, Reminders, Calendar, Contacts Pages Numbers Keynote as well as FaceTime. Third-party developers may add support if desired in their software packages. New Features
To enable Handoff, navigate to System Preferences and then click the Apple icon at the top left of your screen and select “Apple menu System Preferences.” Finally, check the box “Allow Handoff between this Mac and Your iCloud Devices”, to activate or deactivate. To turn it off simply uncheck this box. New Features
New Features | 5. iPhone Mirroring
Once iOS 15 and macOS Monterey are released, iPhone Mirroring will become an amazing new feature that enhances Continuity by giving users full access to their iPhone display directly from their Mac. This can help presenters, demoers and content creators showcase their creations while giving their digital media an increased audience reach.
To set up iPhone Mirroring, users need a MacOS computer running Sierra or later and an iPhone that’s compatible. Once connected, they’ll be able to see their phone’s screen on their MacBook easily with just a few steps.
Apple’s QuickTime Player app makes this possible; all that’s required to connect two devices is a lightning-to-USB cable. Once paired, they will appear as one Wi-Fi network and display an AirPlay code you must enter on your iPhone – once entered successfully, its screen will instantly appear on your MacBook! This feature makes your Mac an indispensable resource when used for work or play alike and an excellent way to share content instantly with colleagues and friends alike.
