Kwadwo Duah and Max Aebischer both scored goals.

Kwadwo Duah and Michel Aebischer led Switzerland to victory against Hungary at Euro 2024’s inaugural match in Cologne by scoring their respective first goals for Switzerland – both 27 years old – to help Murat Yakin’s side edge past Hungary by 3-1. Both players produced dominant displays that secured outright victories.

Aebischer set Duah up with his first international goal through an exquisite throughball in the 12th minute and Liverpool winger Duah scored with ease to open their account in style. Duah then capitalized on an error by Hungary defender Bolla to score another superb curled effort that beat an helpless goalkeeper shortly before half time; seconds after half time another mistake allowed Duah to break through and score two more against both opponents!Switzerland Outclass Hungary

Hungary made an exciting second half comeback as Barnabas Varga scored from Dominik Szoboszlai’s cross to give Hungary hope of an upset, yet Switzerland stood firm with three goals from Breel Embolo sealing their three-goal win comfortably and moving them into first place of Group A with three points.Switzerland Outclass Hungary

Duah was a surprise choice of starting eleven over Monaco’s Embolo and Burnley’s Zeki Amdouni, yet made no misstep with his ability when racing through on goal and lifting it gently over Gulacsi for only his second international goal – with fans in the Kurve Schweiz stand roaring their support just like they cheered their countrymen home.Switzerland Outclass Hungary

As an outstanding reader of the game and influential midfield presence, as well as his hold-up play which provided Switzerland a platform to dominate, making him a formidable threat against any opposing team, he brings much to his game.Switzerland Outclass Hungary

Issues will revolve around his physical ability to take up regular starting duties.

Switzerland coach Yakin made an ambitious tactical choice by starting both Duah and Aebischer; these decisions paid dividends as his team began strong. Aebischer proved crucial in many of Switzerland’s best work in possession while acting as an effective counter to Hungary’s marauding left-back Milos Kerkez.Switzerland Outclass Hungary

Granit Xhaka was exceptional on Monday evening as Bayer Leverkusen won both Bundesliga and Cup doubles this season with Bayer Leverkusen. He controlled play from midfield, directing his side from an advanced role while remaining unbothered by Hungarian defenders thanks to Dan Ndoye, Bournemouth duo Yann Sommer and Manuel Akanji at center-back for Bournemouth and center-back duo Dan Ndoye and Manuel Akanji for Bournemouth; these trio should prove formidable opponents come group stages Xherdan Shaqiri sitting on bench!Switzerland Outclass Hungary

Ruben Vargas and Breel Embolo each scored goals.

Hungary were quickly stunned as Switzerland overpowered them at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne. Manuel Akanji of Birmingham City FC and Borussia Dortmund star Fabian Schar of Borussia Dortmund were key components in Switzerland’s formidable defensive effort, with Granit Xhaka and Dan Ndoye providing attacking options midfield.

Kwadwo Duah scored the opening goal just 12 minutes into the match when Michel Aebischer provided a defence-splitting pass that Kwadwo Duah exploited to score past Peter Gulacsi while initially marking himself offside, only for it to be overruled after video review confirmed he was onside.

On the stroke of half-time, Switzerland should have extended their lead when Vargas latched onto a poor pass from Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and shot just wide of goal. Hungary were struggling to withstand Swiss pressure until Barnabas Varga dove forward to head Dominik Szoboszlai’s curling cross into the bottom corner for another counter attack goal 66 minutes into play.

Aebischer had played an instrumental role in Duah’s opening goal and again provided his second. Driving forward into Hungary’s box, Aebischer drove forward before finding space to deliver a low pass that Duah controlled and scored past Gulacsi. Aebischer stood out for Switzerland midfield while Xhaka and Ndoye and Embolo continued their constant threat against Hungarian defenders.

Hungary attempted to respond, but left spaces that Switzerland quickly exploited with another stunning finish from Yann Sommer. Embolo raced onto a long ball from the right before calmly chipping Gulacsi for another stunning goal that gave Switzerland complete control of Group A in stoppage time.Switzerland Outclass Hungary

Marco Rossi will find comfort in Hungary’s efforts, even in defeat, which included pressing with purpose and creating chances despite conceding first goals at five of six major tournaments they have competed at. As they competed against Switzerland on an equal footing and outperformed their predecessors at Euro 2024 qualifying, this should give cause for hope.

Yet to qualify from a group that includes Poland and Serbia will require them to significantly up their game. As the campaign resumes in Leipzig on Thursday, victory against Poland in Zurich on Sunday could prove challenging. Meanwhile Portugal plays Spain for second spot while third-placed teams Croatia or Denmark could meet Germany or Italy for semi-final spots with draw for last eight taking place Monday.Switzerland Outclass Hungary

Goalkeeping provided by Peter Gulacsi

Peter Gulacsi of RB Leipzig stands out in Switzerland’s camp thanks to his vast experience, having played under Rafa Benitez, Kenny Dalglish, Roy Hodgson and Roger Schmidt during his playing career; winning one Champions League semifinal and representing his nation at European Championships as well as donning red-and-white stripes!

Switzerland easily outshone Hungary in Group A match at first half, thanks to goals scored by Kwadwo Duah and Michel Aebischer during their inaugural international matches – Duah’s exquisite finish earned a second international goal before Aebischer doubled Switzerland’s advantage just before halftime with what at first seemed an offside goal but ultimately stood up after video review; numerous red-clad Swiss players immediately surrounded him to honour what would become his heroism against Hungary.

Second half action was more sedate but still featured numerous chances on both ends. Ruben Vargas could have thrilled the crowd with a header but instead sent his effort wide of the post. Breel Embolo made his return from injury and sealed victory by chipping over Gulacsi effortlessly in stoppage time.Switzerland Outclass Hungary

Gulacsi has been performing admirably as Janis Blaswich’s backup in the Bundesliga this season. He started four of their last five matches and kept two clean sheets in that span. Gulacsi’s impressive play against Hungarian opposition should give him more confidence ahead of Saturday’s clash against Dortmund.

Bayern Munich defeated FC Koln 5-1 in their German Cup quarterfinal matchup, thanks to Bence Bajza’s incredible save in the 76th minute when FC Koln attempted a comeback attempt and were denied by Leipzig goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the opening minutes. But after being denied by Bence Bajza’s attempt at mounting an attack against Leipzig goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel’s initial efforts of deny attempts by FC Koln players to mount their own attack which eventually lead to his astounding stopper.

Gulacsi will be an invaluable asset to Switzerland in their bid to reach the semi-finals at Euro 2024. Facing England, Portugal and Belgium in Group C’s final stage will require them to perform at their peak – attackers as well as goalkeeper Gulacsi playing well will help guarantee success; but reaching this goal may not be easy but Switzerland appears well prepared to succeed.
