Maidaan

Maidaan  | Rishabh Joshi

Maidaan is an inspiring tale of solidarity and resilience, depicting the story of India’s football team under its legendary captain. Amid a sea of sports biopics that tend towards excess, Maidaan offers welcome respite.

Ajay Devgn’s unwavering commitment to his role of Rahim makes him the film’s driving force, imbuing Rahim with quiet strength that’s as magnetic as his fiery motivational speeches. Additionally, their relationship is beautifully captured on screen.

This movie does feature some overdone drama and overused cliches from its eight writers (whom are all credited). But overall it remains highly watchable and enjoyable.

The film’s most captivating moments are its exhilarating match sequences, which manage a delicate balance between visual grandeur and gritty realism. Re-creating India’s win at the 1962 Asian Games alone can send chills down your spine; yet unfortunately this movie misses an opportunity to explore icons like PK Banerjee and Chuni Goswami who were revered players both on-and-off-field – something which would have added even greater depth. However, this minor flaw should not deter you from enjoying what was an otherwise incredible film experience!

Maidaan  | Davinder Gill

Ajay Devgn gives an impressive performance as coach Syed Abdul Rahim and this film beautifully captures the ‘golden age of Indian football. Although some cliches from sports movies appear, both its dialogue writing and cinematography keep you gripped and are enough to leave goosebumps running down your spine – especially during its stunning climax!

Maidaan stands out from other sports biopics by not sacrificing nuance and depth for grandstanding grandiosity, thanks to a cast that stands out. Chaitanya Sharma, Amartya Ray, Tanmay Bhattacharjee and Davinder Gill all deliver memorable performances. While its first half takes its time getting started, its second half picks up pace considerably and keeps us engaged; music and cinematography add an additional layer of enjoyment; Maidaan remains essential viewing for football enthusiasts regardless.

Maidaan  | Chaitanya Sharma

Chaitanya Sharma has over 10 years of experience working in digital marketing and has trained over 10,000 individuals on Google Ads Strategy worldwide. Additionally, he serves as process manager for training and development within large organizations.

He is active in both cultural and professional activities. In fact, he holds two degrees – a Bachelor of Technology from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University – which have both contributed towards his illustrious professional journey.

Maidaan, the sports drama film from Ajay Devgn and co-starring Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, Rudranil Ghosh and many more actors as Syed Abdul Rahim was responsible for leading India into its golden era of football coaching, is set against this historical backdrop and features Ajay Devgn in the role of Syed Abdul Rahim who orchestrated this success story era in Indian football.
