Kangana Ranaut was attacked at Chandigarh Airport by a CISF constable who has since been suspended and an FIR filed against her, for slapping Kangana Ranaut on her face while apparently upset about her stance regarding farmers protests. The woman has allegedly done this deliberately.
Veteran actor Shabana Azmi has denounced and shown support for Kangana Ranaut in her fight against violence against women and children. Shabana also encouraged people to stand against such abuse.
She is one of India’s best-known actresses, having appeared in over 120 films over her 75-year career spanning independent, neorealist parallel cinema, mainstream Hindi films and international projects. She has won multiple awards for her work while advocating social and women’s rights issues; and is married to noted lyricist/screenwriter Javed Akhtar.
Shabana Azmi responded to Kangana Ranaut’s slapping incident with several Instagram posts on her account. In these, Shabana has strongly criticised Kulwinder Kaur, the CISF woman constable who struck at Kangana at Chandigarh airport and Kulwinder was called out for her behavior and stated that it was inappropriate for an MP to be hit like this; and encouraged others to support female achievers and stop criticising them.
