Vande Bharat
India’s railway system is set to introduce a new fleet of high-speed sleeper trains, dubbed Vande Bharat, capable of reaching velocities of 200 kilometers per hour. This upgrade promises to greatly improve the comfort and efficiency of inter-city travel over long distances. Currently, the existing Vande Bharat Chair Car Express trains have a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour, but engineers are working to revamp their design and unlock faster travel times.
The unveiling of Vande Bharat sleeper trains has ignited a controversy over whether they will eventually overshadow the iconic Rajdhani Express and Shatabdi Express, in the wake of recent declarations regarding their inaugural run.
Many news outlets have stated that railway officials are considering phasing out the Shatab trains and introducing the Vande trains instead. The upcoming sleeper trains of Vande Bharat are anticipated to take over the role of the current Rajdhani Express services.
The Rajdhani Express is a premium train service managed by Indian Railways that links New Delhi to different state capitals. Furthermore, the Vande Bharat Express offers seating services across the country.
Mumbai is witnessing active deliberation on the possibility of introducing a Vande Metro service, specifically designed for shorter routes. While Vande Bharat trains are already in operation, there are proposals to launch a metro service under the same umbrella, with potential expansion plans also being explored.
The latest information shows that the soon-to-be-launched Vande sleeper trains will have 16 air-conditioned coaches in total, providing 823 berths for travelers. The premium AC coaches will include modern features such as odorless restrooms, automated outer doors for convenient entry, and the added comfort of heated showers.

The seats on functioning Vande Bharat trains boast superior comfort levels, and it’s likely that sleeper trains also make passenger comfort a top priority. Additionally, their carriages come fitted with contemporary facilities, such as air conditioning units, internet connectivity, and self-operating doors, to ensure a pleasant travel experience.
The Vande Bharat train in India is a domestic semi high-speed train that is fully within India. Indian Railways is currently managing the operations of the Vande trains.
The forthcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in every carriage. Nevertheless, it is improbable that Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains will be incorporated into the lineup. Rather, they will offer air-conditioned seating accommodations.

Those looking forward to the introduction of Vande Bharat coaches will be pleased to hear that Indian Railways has shared an approximate schedule for the debut of these advanced trains. Notably, the Railways has specified what will not be included in their upcoming initiatives.
India’s railway system is continuously working to expand its Vande Bharat services, with proposals in progress to launch a sleeping car version of the Vande coach and a metro train in the coming years, as revealed by Railway Board Secretary Milind Deuskar on Thursday.
