Saurabh Netravalkar shocked an army of Indian fans at Nassau County International Stadium by bowling Virat Kohli out for an innocent golden duck, followed up with Rohit Sharma who also fell victim to this technique and leaving India 15 for two in their chase of 111 runs.
Virat Kohli | Kohli’s golden duck
Team India secured a place in the Super 8 stage of T20 World Cup 2024 after an enthralling run-chase against USA, but their game started off poorly when captain Virat Kohli was dismissed for a golden duck off Saurabh Netravalkar’s very first ball at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.Virat Kohli
Left-arm bowler Matthew Short had just come off of a four-wicket haul against Pakistan and showed no sign of fatigue by swiftly dispatching Rohit Sharma and Kohli for USA’s co-hosts – India had been reduced to 10-2 at one stage in their run chase! USA kept fighting hard in pursuit of an upset victory and ultimately succeeded.Virat Kohli
But the co-hosts were dealt a setback shortly afterwards as they fell to 16-2 in the fourth over – prompting Jasprit Bumrah’s entry. He quickly proved invaluable as they salvaged victory with another six over Jasprit Bumrah at bat.Virat Kohli
Left-armer Sean Abbs bowled an impressive over, conceding just five singles to leave USA at 32/3 at the end of PowerPlay. Shivam Dube came on to add runs as USA reached their target with 18 balls left to spare.Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli | Suryakumar Yadav’s half-century
Suryakumar Yadav, popularly known by his nickname ‘SKY’ is an accomplished right-handed middle-order batsman for Mumbai in domestic first-class cricket. He made his Ranji Trophy debut against Delhi and scored an excellent 73 in their first innings before becoming an integral member of their side ever since.
Since 2011, he has played for Mumbai Indians of the IPL until 2013, when he switched teams and joined Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring several hundreds each season for them. Additionally, in 2023 he was selected as India’s squad to compete at ICC World Cup tournament.
In their final group game against USA, Shivam Dube hit an unbeaten half-century to help India beat them by seven wickets and secure their place in Super Eights. His effort was well supported by Shivam Dube who finished unbeaten on 31 not out from 35 balls.
The pair shared in a 67-run fourth wicket partnership to help their side overcome an ambitious target of 111 runs. US bowlers tried their best to control run-rate, but missed chances and unlucky bouncers helped India reach their winning total. Axar Patel joined Axar Singh’s attack during the 15th over, only for him to concede 11 runs quickly before being removed due to straight drives from Corey Anderson towards boundary.
Virat Kohli | Ricky Ponting’s prediction
Ricky Ponting has long been known for his uncanny ability to accurately predict the future of cricket, leaving viewers speechless with his predictions. On August 4, India defeated USA with seven wickets by Ponting correctly predicting Kohli’s downfall which led to India achieving seven wickets win and moving on to reach super eight round of T20 World Cup tournament.
After winning the toss and opting to field, Indian bowlers limited the US to only 110 runs in 20 overs at Nassau County International Stadium in New York State. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh took 4-9 in four overs as left-arm pacer Suryakumar Yadav notched an unbeaten half century alongside an unbroken 67 run stand between him and Shivam Dube which enabled India to recover quickly following an initially difficult start in their chase.Virat Kohli
Ponting had previously advised India’s batsmen not to expect fast pitches at the T20 World Cup and to temper their expectations accordingly. He added that West Indies pitches, co-hosts of the competition, might slow down towards its conclusion.Virat Kohli
Ponting was also complimentary towards Rohit Sharma for his experience leading Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya as part of Mumbai Indians in the IPL tournament, noting how such knowledge will come in handy during Long Island’s high-pressure encounter.Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli | Arshdeep Singh’s fiery spell
Arshdeep Singh of India struck hard against USA’s top order, taking four wickets while conceding only nine runs over four overs. Arshdeep was India’s star performer with his left-arm pacer easily hitting all lengths while mixing short and long deliveries for success.
He got the Men in Blue off to an excellent start by trapping USA opener Shayan Jahangir right in front of the stumps with his first delivery. Soon thereafter, the 25-year-old continued his impressive form by trapping Andries Gous for just two runs via leg before wicket delivery.
Singh’s mesmeric spell ensured the USA never got going and eventually managed to score only 110/8 at Nassau County Cricket Ground, New York. Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube’s stunning 72-run partnership paved the way for India’s comfortable seven-wicket victory.
Left-arm pacer Akshar Patel received widespread acclaim on social media for his spectacular spell, becoming one of the star performers from India’s side and fully deserving all praise that came his way. A true menace for co-hosts, Akshar even broke several records during this incredible outing!Virat Kohli
